Sullivan Canyon
A sylvan equestrian-oriented community in Brentwood, California, Sullivan Canyon lies just east of (and adjacent to) the Palisades Riviera. Areas of lower Mandeville are also zoned for on-site horses.

Residents, young and old, ride their horses to the "ring" for exercise, training, or relaxation.
Architect-designer Cliff May developed the tract commencing in the 1930's.  He built his family home at the end of Old Ranch Road.

From Wikipedia - Cliff May

"The Father of the California Ranch Home

May loved wide open spaces. No wonder. A descendant of an early California Spanish family, he was raised on a San Diego ranch. Considered by many to be the father of the California ranch-style house, May is noted for combining the western ranch house and Hispanic hacienda styles with elements of modernism. His approach called for houses to be built out instead of up, with the continual goal of bringing the outdoors in.

May studied business and accounting at San Diego State for a couple of years but left school around the time the stock market crashed in 1929. While still a student he made furniture, which he sold in a model home. That led him to home building after leaving school, and he built and designed his first house in San Diego when he was just 23.

Still, May never became a member of the American Institute of Architects with the designation of AIA, but rather, spent most of his career as a licensed building designer. “I was proud that I got where I did and wasn't an architect,” he said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times at the age of 79. Cliff May was ultimately given the designation of licensed architect when the State of California, under Governor George Deukmejian, did away with the agency overseeing building designers."

The range of housing values is approximately $3.2Mil to $15Million.

State historic parks preserve places and objects of statewide historic significance. Before Sunset Boulevard reaches Chautauqua Blvd., you can find the home of one of America's most beloved entertainers and humorists, Will Rogers. In what is now the town of Pacific Palisades, Rogers built his ranch, where he lived with his wife Betty and their three children, Will, Jr., Mary, and James. The 31-room ranch house, which includes 11 baths and seven fireplaces, is surrounded by a stable, corrals, riding ring, roping arena, golf course, polo field - and riding and hiking trails that give visitors spectacular views of the ranch and the surrounding countryside - 186 acres. The ranch became a State Park in 1944 after the death of Mrs. Rogers.

Equestrian Activities
The Will Rogers Polo Club plays polo every weekend from April to October. Riding Lessons are available on Monday through Saturday; please see our Horseback Riding Lessons Information Page. Equestrians are welcome to bring their horses to the park for day-use to enjoy the riding and roping arena, Sarah's Point, and the trail to Inspiration Point. Will Rogers SHP will offer horse rentals at the park this Fall, check back to this webpage for more information.
